Happy New Year! I can’t believe 2018 is upon us already! I don’t ever make New Year resolutions but I do like to take stock of where I am with my crafting and make plans for the coming year.
Current Knitting Projects
The main project I am still working away on the So Faded by Andrea Mowry and am just about finished with the body length and ready to start the ribbing section at the bottom. I have decided that instead of adding ribbing I am going to do a split hem and make the back longer then the front. This style of hem appeals to me more with sweaters and I think it will look great. I am also considering doing a seed stitch bottom to help it lay flat.
The way in which the colours are fading into each other is giving a really fabulous ombre effect I just love! What you can’t quite see on the picture here is the bottom colour which is just a plain mocha colour that blends in perfectly.
The other main project I am working on is my Christmas Eve cast on which is a cowl. My sock knitting mojo has completely disappeared as it often does so I thought I’d go for a nice simple cowl.
The yarn is a wonderfully squishy MCN by Norah George Yarns in the colourway Atelier. I used 4mm needles and cast on 150 st and just started knitting with a simple pattern from a stitch dictionary. I love the way this is knitting up I should make a really nice little cowl when complete. Hopefully it won’t be long before it is done as I am really enjoying this project.
Still on the needles are my Hylestad socks and a pair of vanilla socks. I just haven’t had the inclination to knit on socks for the last few weeks. I tend to go through spurts of sock knitting and right now they are not high on my list.
Frog or Finish February
It is this time of year I like to take stock of my projects and have decided that I am aiming to finish all my languishing projects by the end of February or simply frog those ones that just aren’t making the grade!
This will also include my coy memory blankets. I am just not feeling the love for knitting on these right now either. Maybe I need to try and rekindle my passion for these mitered square projects or just finally call it a day and frog them. I think the urge for a granny stripe blanket is calling, the squares look great but take an age to knit up! I would be really interested to hear from you if you have decided to frog any of your long terms project. Please leave a comment below 🙂
I am planning on having a bit of an overhaul in the shop this month. There are a few new designs in my head that I am looking forward to trying out including cat shaped notion pouches and more needle cases. I am also going to be trying our some different shaped bags and some large tote bags.
The fabrics I am using are going to change this year. I am looking at more robust fabrics and designs and even planning on designing my own patterns. There are several themes I like and would love to get them printed on fabric. Mind you my drawing skills are pretty rubbish so I will have to enlist Mr S to do some of the sketching!
So that is enough rambling for now. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope 2018 brings you everything you desire 🙂
