It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post and my knitting mojo is at a bit of a low! With the festive season here I have been spending most of my time getting everything and everyone organised.
No Knitting Mojo
Even though my knitting mojo has temporarily disappeared I have worked on some projects. The main project I have been working on is the So Faded by Andrea Mowry. I haven’t got very far with it I am just about done with the raglan increases and ready to split the sleeves and body stitches. I haven’t even managed to fade my second colour in yet! This is the project I intend o work on most over the festive period along with a couple of pairs of socks.
Over the coming weeks I have plans to knit up a cowl using some rather squishy MCN yarn I purchased from Norah George Yarns. There is a pattern I have in my head which I think will work well. Hopefully this will get cast on in the next week or so.
I also purchased a sock set from Giddy Yarns which I absolutely love! This will also be cast on this week. Some of the other projects I have planned have all been moved to the New Year! Hopefully I will have more knitting time over the holiday period as I don’t plan on doing any shop sewing till the new year.
At least some creating has been going on in the studio! With Christmas upon us I decided to sew up a couple of last minute presents.
For the Slytherin in my life (well there are a lot of us actually!) I found this great house fabric and made a make-up bag and matching make-up brush roll. Also I made one for another make-up fan in this gorgeous sugar skulls fabric. I like making projects and creating a pattern from scratch. It takes a bit of trial and error but I got there in the end! I always make a prototype out of scrap fabric I have laying around which usually ends up being mine!
To go with these rolls I bought some rather fancy metallic make-up brushes in gold and silver. I have no idea whether they are good brushes but they look good with the brush rolls!
Over the next week I am hoping to maybe get a bit more Christmas sewing done. I would like to get a couple of Necessary Clutch Wallets sewn up. I would like one in purple cord and the sugar skull fabric. They would also be a great addition to the Etsy shop although these wouldn’t be something I would sew a lot of, just when I feel the urge for something other then wedge bags!
Other sewing projects include a couple of drawstring sock sacks I have been working on. I wanted to do some applique designs using heavier fabric as the main bag fabric. After sifting through numerous templates I settled on a cute cat (who doesn’t love a kitty?)
I chose some cord fabric and lined it with a stiff interfacing to give the bag stability. The faces on the cats were hand embroidered on then sewn onto the front panel by hand. I much prefer hand embroidery as I still haven’t mastered the art of free motion embroidery on the machine! To add a bit of bling I gave the cats a rather gorgeous rhinestone collar! I needed to find a use for the hot fix rhinestone gun I bought and thought this was perfect!
These bags will be in the shop probably in the new year. There won’t be many of them though as they are pretty labour intensive. I did enjoy the drawstring bag making process though and think I will look at making a few more sock sized bags this way. It is unlikely that I would make larger bags with a drawstring though, that is a personal preference 🙂
As I have mentioned I am done sewing for the shop for this year now. However I will be making some items for a shop update in January. The Interchangeable knitting needle case was extremely popular and sold our really quickly so I will be making a few more of those. Some will be in the flamingo fabric although I couldn’t get the same pink fabric to go with it, I did get something very similar though that will look great. I also have some gorgeous pink unicorn fabric with a contrasting pale grey that I think will make great cases.
Over the last few weeks I have been looking at different fabric suppliers and have found some really amazing patterns. Most new fabrics will be woodland themed as this was a popular choice when I asked about bags. I have also got some rather adorable cat fabric and have some sheep on order! Sourcing fabrics is one of my favourite parts of the making process, I’d love to hear from you what your favourite patterns / themes are.
